Governing Structure
The academy has a governing structure that incorporates the views of all stakeholders.
● Academy of Engineering Director/Coordinator
● Academy of Engineering Team (AOE Team)
● Engineering Advisory Board (EAB)
● Building Principal
● Academy of Engineering Director/Coordinator
- The AOE Director/Coordinator and team will work to operate the program in a manner consistent with NAF guidelines and school design components.
- AOE Director/Coordinator will work collaboratively with the team members and building administration to make decisions concerning program scheduling, recruitment, internship placement, acceptable field trips, and student scheduling.
- AOE Director/Coordinator will confer with the building and district administrators as well as the Engineering Advisory Board for matters relating to academy expenditures.
● Academy of Engineering Team (AOE Team)
- The school will establish an Academy of Engineering Team during the first year of operation. This team will be comprised of members that include: AOE Coordinator, PLTW certified teacher, at least one core teacher from the AOE cohort, and a guidance counselor. Their role will include collaborating with the AOE coordinator in academy decision making.
- The AOE team will create a committee that will be responsible for the approval of students applying for acceptance into the AOE program or dismissal of students from the program.
- The AOE Team will meet monthly prior to the scheduled meeting of the Engineering Advisory Board. Meetings will focus on program status reporting, program needs, and continued program planning.
● Engineering Advisory Board (EAB)
- EAB members will make decisions related to the composition of membership that is consistent with the National Academy Foundation model.
- EAB will approve all requests for financial support for the AOE program.
- EAB will work with the AOE Coordinator to identify possible internship opportunities for students and will determine placement of student interns in collaboration with the AOE Coordinator.
- EAB will establish regular monthly meeting dates and times.
● Building Principal
- The building principal has final decision making authority over all decisions made by the AOE Coordinator and/or the AOE Team.
- The building principal will approve the finalized list of intern placements.
- The building principal will work collaboratively with the EAB to facilitate decisions that support the mission of the Academy of Engineering and that are in the best interest of the entire student body.
